Wrinkle Reduction & Dermal Fillers

For a general clean and overall cleaner, brighter complexion

What are Wrinkle Reduction & Dermal Fillers?

Anti-wrinkle injections relax the muscles that cause wrinkles. To achieve total facial rejuvenation, anti-wrinkle injections are often used in combination with Dermal Fillers.

They have been used around the world for over 20 years on millions of patients and are a very safe and well-tested option for rejuvenation.

Anti-wrinkle injections are made from a purified protein. When injected into specific muscles, it causes them to temporarily relax which softens lines and wrinkles.

What does it treat?

Dermal fillers are essentially a non-invasive cosmetic injection designed to rejuvenate the areas of the face that have lost volume. They can also be used to treat fine lines and to hydrate the skin.

Dermal fillers fall into 2 categories:

  1. Non-permanent fillers
  2. Permanent fillers

At Avana, we use non-permanent fillers because:

  • They’re safer – The products are made from natural substances which make them very safe.
  • They’re adjustable – Non permanent fillers allow results to be fine tuned or reversed.

They effectively improve your:

  • Lips by making them appear fuller
  • Smile lines by filling them out
  • Cheeks and under eyes by reducing dark circles and hollowness
  • Mouth, nose, chin, jaw-line (jowls) and scars by filling and smoothing them out

Dermal fillers are made from a naturally occurring Hyaluronic Acid which is already present in our bodies, so it is a safe and proven option to augment your look.

What are anti-wrinkle injections?
Anti-wrinkle injections are made from a purified protein. When injected into specific muscles, it causes them to temporarily relax which softens lines and wrinkles.
For how long do anti-wrinkle injections work?
Anti-wrinkle injections will start working within 2-3 days, with full effect normally at 2 weeks.

Results last 3-6 months in most cases however, in many cases the first 2-3 treatments may only last 3 months. Many studies have indicated that treatments become more effective and longer lasting when given every 3-4 months. If a patient makes the decision to stop anti-wrinkle treatments, their wrinkles will return once the strength returns to their muscles.

Do anti-wrinkle injections hurt?
Anti-wrinkle injections are quick, simple and virtually painless, allowing patients to return to normal activities immediately. The needles used are very small (more or less the same size as those used to perform acupuncture) and feel like tiny ‘pin’ pricks on the skin. The discomfort is well tolerated by patients, as it only lasts for a moment.
What are the potential side-effects?

As mentioned, anti-wrinkle injections are very safe but on rare occasions the following side effects may occur:

  • Mild bruising
  • Localised tenderness
  • Temporary redness
  • Small mosquito bite marks (these will last for less than hour).
  • Droopy eyelid. This occurs in 1 out of every 1000 treatments and may last approximately one month. Specialised eye drops can be used to reduce symptoms.
How do Dermal Fillers work?
As we get older, we lose facial fat, collagen and elastin which leads to drooping of the skin causing wrinkles. When Dermal Fillers and Anti-wrinkle injections are combined, they produce optimal results. The Dermal Filler instantly fills out the injection area and as the product draws in moisture, the results gradually improve over the 1-2 weeks following treatment. The Dermal Filler can also stimulate collagen production.
How long do they last?
Typically, 6-24 months depending upon where the filler was used on the face.
What are the side effects?

Very rarely do clients experience any side effects but from time-to-time, you may notice:

  • Temporary redness
  • Tenderness in local areas
  • Swelling which disappears after 2-7 days
  • Bruising which can take about 2 weeks to disappear. Makeup can instantly cover these
  • Small lumps may appear but these will either dissolve on their own within a few weeks or we can dissolve these using a specialised product called hyaluronidase

What areas can be treated?

  • Forehead
  • Jaw
  • Smile lines (crows feet)
  • Frown lines
  • Sagging jowls
  • Eyebrows
