What is melasma?

Melasma Treatment: Melasma is a chronic skin disorder that results in symmetrical, blotchy brownish facial pigmentation. Melasma is most common in brown skinned females aged 25 – 50 years and is often genetic.

They are brown/black, with irregular borders, and are found on the forehead, both sides of the cheeks, nose, upper lips and jawline.

What causes melasma?

  • Unhealthy diet

How to prevent melasma?

Melasma is often genetic and very hard to prevent. You can help minimise the appearance and delay the onset of melasma by:

  • Wearing SPF50+ sunscreen
  • Minimising sun exposure
  • Using topical serums with active ingredients like Tyrosinase
  • Inhibitors
  • Good exfoliation
  • Regular laser treatments

How many treatments are required?
Minimum 5 treatments are required
Are the results permanent?
Most of the time, melasma can be reversed but sometimes it can only be lightened
How frequently do I need the treatments?
Treatments can be performed every 2 weeks. This interval allows skin to heal and the melasma to fade before the next treatment
Does the treatment hurt?
The sensation is often described as a ‘hot pinch’ feeling. The sensation only lasts for a fraction of a minute and you may feel a warm feeling
